Hermes, Axios' internal chart maker tool, is used by nearly every reporter in the newsroom to produce charts for their stories and newsletters.
In 2022, I led the rebuild of Axios' internal chart maker tool, Hermes, using SvelteKit. We expanded Hermes' functionality significantly, increasing the number of chart types it could make from three to more than dozen. In 2024, reporters in the newsroom created more than 4,000 Hermes charts.
